## General info Published cultivar of [[Nepenthes x splendiana x (eymae x ephippiata)]]. Link to publication in the [ICPS journal](https://cpn.carnivorousplants.org/articles/CPNv50n1p35_43.pdf) by [[Carson Trexler]]. I am ever indebted to Carlson for his excellent work selecting, growing, sharing, and publishing this outstanding plant. Sources: Occasionally the following sellers have rooted cuttings available. - [[Sarracenia Northwest]] - [[Jeremiah's Plants]] --- ## Plants #### Carson's original plant Upper pitchers seem to have a similar shape, regardless of the size / maturity of the plant. Below is a small cutting: ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_recd_2026-06-19a.jpg|200]] ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_recd_2026-06-19b.jpg|200]] ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_recd_2026-06-19c.jpg|200]] The first cut of the plant, I believe, from 2021 (five years from sowing): ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_2021-06-15a.jpg|300]] ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_2021-06-15b.jpg|300]] !![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_2021-06-15f.jpg|300]] Closeup of grotesque intermediates: ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_2021-06-15g.jpg|300]] ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_2021-06-15h.jpg|300]] And a lower: ![[N_Pennywise_Trexler_recd_2026-06-19d.jpg|300]] --- #### Specimens grown by other people: - [YouTube short](https://youtube.com/shorts/Q6ErgOWvAfw?si=heU-lQRt3aujAFf7) showing a 9" upper, by [Pings n Things](https://www.youtube.com/@pings_n_things) - [James Dunko's plant](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18bJRSmK1x/) on Facebook, 2024-03-15 - [hydrahorticulture's plant](https://www.instagram.com/p/DH2ET4DPmTP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) on Instagram, 2025-03-30 --- #### My 1st plant Carson generously gifted me a cutting. Due to difficult circumstances, after a year or so I sent the plant to [[Carnivero]] for safekeeping. #### My 2nd plant Purchased from [[Sam Bookhardt]] via Facebook for $60 on 2025-08-25. Sam generously covered shipping. ##### 2025-08-28 Arrived in the mail today. Potted up into 1:1 perlite:sphagnum. ##### 2025-12-23 Four months later. Growing in 1:1 sphagnum : perlite. Under LED lights, household conditions. ![[N_Pennywise_2025-12-23a.jpg|300]] ![[N_Pennywise_2025-12-23b.jpg|300]] ##### 2026-07-05 Six months after the last photos, and about 10 months since arrival. Much larger. I repotted it today into a 1 gal. pot. The root system was still relatively small, but the white pot was drying out too quickly. Without disturbing the root ball too much, I put it into the new pot and used a 3:2 mix of medium-grade perlite : buffered coco peat, which should retain more moisture. Some foam chips added for aeration. ![[N_Pennywise_2026-07-05a.jpg|300]] ![[N_Pennywise_2026-07-05b.jpg|300]] --- ## PDF publication PDF copy of the ICPS publication is embedded here (scroll down several pages to see the 'Pennywise' description): ![[CPNv50n1p35_43.pdf]] --- [[Nepenthes I've grown]] | [[My hybrids]] | [[Nepenthes]]
